Connect your Gmail to Unward
This guide walks you through connecting your Gmail to an Unward alias.
What Gmail forwarding does
A tiny Google Apps Script runs inside your own Google account. Every 15 minutes or so, it looks for new promo emails in your Gmail and forwards them to your Unward alias.
That's it. Unward never sees your Gmail password and never stores your inbox — only the forwarded copies of the messages that match the promo filter.
Your data stays in your Google account
Before you start
- You're signed into the Gmail account whose promos you want to forward.
- You'll see two or three Google warning screens — that's expected. We'll walk you through each one.
Step by step
You'll bounce between the Unward app and your browser. Here's exactly what to tap, in order.
Tap "Connect Gmail" in Unward
In the Unward app, open the persona you want to forward emails to and tap Connect Gmail. Your browser will open.
Choose your Google account
If you're signed into more than one Google account, pick the one whose Gmail you want to forward from.
You'll see "Unverified" — that's expected
Google Apps Script shows a dialog labelled "Unward Gmail Forwarding (Unverified)". This is normal. Tap REVIEW PERMISSIONS to continue.

Why does Google call it "Unverified"?
- The script doesn't belong to Unward. Once you install it, it lives inside your Google account and runs on your behalf — there's no Unward server in the loop.
- Google's verification process is built for apps a company runs centrally for many users. Because this one runs inside your account using your own permissions, Google labels it "Unverified" by default — that's the warning you're seeing.
- You stay in control: Unward never sees your Gmail password, and you can revoke the script's access from your Google account at any time.
Tap "Advanced", then "Go to Unward Gmail Forwarding"
The next screen has a big red triangle and the words "Google hasn't verified this app". Tap Advanced at the bottom-left, then tap the small link "Go to Unward Gmail Forwarding (unsafe)". The word "unsafe" is Google's default phrasing for unverified apps — it's not a real risk.

Allow the script to forward your emails
Google asks which permissions to grant. Leave all four checked, scroll down, and tap Continue.

What do these permissions mean?
- View your email messages and settings — so the script can find the promo emails to forward.
- Send email on your behalf — so it can forward each one to your Unward alias.
- Connect to an external service — so the script can tell Unward that forwarding is active.
- Allow this application to run when you are not present — so it can keep checking Gmail every 15 minutes in the background.
Tap "Activate Forwarding"
You'll be returned to a small Unward page in your browser. Tap Activate Forwarding. After a few seconds you'll see Forwarding active! — you're done.

What happens next
The script checks your Gmail every 15 minutes or so. The first batch of matching promos usually arrives within a minute. After that, new promos appear in your Unward inbox automatically — no extra steps on your side.
You can disconnect any time
Easiest: open the persona in the Unward app and tap Disconnect. The script stops and removes itself from your Gmail.
Or you can stop it directly in Google:
- Remove the trigger at script.google.com/home/triggers
- Revoke the script's access at myaccount.google.com/connections
